A variety of exotic fruit trees delivered to Foundation Farm ready for planting in the 2024/2025 Wet Season.

CSIRO visits the Farm to share expertise on tropical fruit trees

Recently, Torres Webb from CSIRO visited the Hope Vale Foundation Farm to meet the Foundation Works Crew, survey the Farm, and share his knowledge of tropical fruit trees.

During the visit, Torres spoke with Foundation staff about bush tucker trees, and surveyed the area behind the Farm’s Caretaker’s Cottage. He discovered a 100-year-old avocado tree, bullock heart sapote, miniature Malay coconuts, and other unique species. Plans are now underway to clear this heritage orchard, preserving these old plantings allowing them to thrive.

Torres also advised on the ideal location for a new tropical fruit tree orchard, which will be planted during the 2024/2025 Wet Season.

Thanks to Torres and the CSIRO team for their support in this project.
