One of the activities at the recent Arthur Beetson Foundation Future Immortals Tour saw kids from Hope Vale paint and decorate piping that was later showcased at this year’s Cairns Show, 2024.
Their artwork was a drawcard for the LIFE (Local Indigenous Food Enterprise services) ‘Taste Paradise Farm’ exhibition at Bushtucker Park, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and culinary traditions of Far North Queensland’s Indigenous communities. The yarning area, adorned with totems painted by Hope Vale kids, became a hub for meaningful conversations and cultural exchange.
The exhibit attracted over 3,000 visitors on just the first day, and attracted the interest of local primary school kids who joined in learning about bush tucker and Indigenous culture.
The surge of interest from state and federal politicians is opening up exciting new opportunities for collaboration.
LIFE is led by an incredible team—Marc Harbrow, Sam Martin (Bushtucker Woman), Gudju Gudju Fourmile, and young entrepreneur Destiny Dewie—and covers the region from Hope Vale to Jumbin where food enterprises are being activated in Indigenous communities.
A big shout out to Tony Marchett for driving the ‘Taste Paradise Farm’ food security installation, highlighting the importance of Indigenous foods and crops.
Together, we’re nurturing connections, preserving traditions, and creating opportunities. Join us in celebrating the flavours and wisdom of our First Nations people!
