Hope Vale’s Tropical Orchard Grows with Generous Donation

In September, Premdas (Premi) Swami from Duriantree River Horticulturalists joined Torres Webb from CSIRO and Farm Project Manager Shaun Nancarrow for a community visit to Hope Vale Farm. Premi generously donated 99 fruit trees to the Hope Vale Foundation, marking the start of a tropical fruit orchard on the farm. Further plantings are also planned.

The donated trees include a diverse selection of tropical varieties such as Rambutans, Pangium, Marang, Ackee, Chempedak, Yellow Sapote, Durian, and more. Premi also noted the presence of Noni trees growing in Hope Vale’s main street, a traditional superfood still trusted by the Elders for promoting good health.

Premi’s extensive knowledge of tropical fruit trees was evident during the two-day visit, where he shared valuable insights with the community. His expertise and passion for tropical fruit trees have been instrumental in this project.

Special thanks to the volunteers who helped prepare the trees and transported them across the Daintree River. As Premi says, “Fruit tree jungle taking over the world, one tree at a time.”

Thank you, Premi—your contribution is greatly appreciated!

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we walk. We pay our respects to Elders past and present as we walk this journey of healing together.
